Well, not vampires this time, but still fine Swedish cinema (and literature)

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

Seems quite dark and edgy, just like I like my movies. I'll have to indulge in all 3 books.

Can't wait for the DVD either... looks goody goody. :D Shame I didn't get to see it in any theaters.

This has been in my Amazon Wish list for a while. Since it now has gotten the Etterwyn Stamp of Approval, it'll be my next read :-)

Funny how shit works out. My Swing Out Sister concert got cockblocked by a volcano, so we were left up in Alexandria with nothing to do Monday night. As luck would have it, the movie was playing at the Landmark in DC! So I got to see it after all! Karen had actually never seen a foreign subtitled film before, but she loved it every bit as much as I did. Awesome.

I got the books in yesterday, well the first 2 anyway. Can't wait to dig in!

Wow, talk about engrossing books! I finished "Dragon Tattoo" last week, and started "The Girl who played with Fire" before the weekend. Sunday I read over 500 pages of that damn book! Sheesh! Just finished it today. It's a thrill ride, that's for sure.

Unfortunately I am forbidden from buying "The Girl who kicked the Hornet's Nest" because it's close to my birthday so I can't get anything I want or my girlfriend will kill me. So, I have like almost 4 weeks before I can finish reading this brilliant trilogy. ARGH!

I started Dragon Tattoo last night, so far it's pretty good. Not much has happened yet, it's all background stuff, but I think Salander seems pretty interesting. Different, anyway.

I won't lie that the pace is slow at times, but I'm the kind of person who likes to read hundreds of pages in a sitting and soak up every detail, and hates it when a book ends, regardless of length. So YMMV on that if too much detail bogs you down. But I think you'll love the way it all unfolds.

What does YMMV stand for? And yes, this is a pretty good story. Salander is one strange heroine. I want to see the movie just to see how they depict her. I'm about 3/4 of the way though, expect to finish tonight or tomorrow. Is The Girl Who Plays with Fire as slow in the beginning as this one? It wasn't so much that it had too much detail, it's that I wanted to get to know Salander better, and got confused with all those Vanger names and Swedish places.

Your mileage may vary. :)

"Fire" is more enjoyable because it reveals a LOT more about Lisbeth, whereas the first book was heavy on Blomkvist and the Vanger family. Lisbeth's past and present life is definitely more intriguing. It also sets up the final book with a bang, and makes me SO glad my damn birthday is next week so I can get back to reading! Grrr!!!
